Live-action Akira film will happen, but probably not with Taika Waititi

The live-action adaptation of the cult smash hit from 1988 Akira has been languishing in development hell for a ridiculously long time. Since the announcement in 2002, the new version of Akira has been shared with several filmmakers, most recently Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi. Due to the fact that Waititi tackled Thor: Love and Thunder at Marvel, it was necessary that Akira was delayed again. Waititi recently discussed the film in his words of hope before adding a dash of disappointment.

"I think it will happen someday. I'm just not sure if I will."

From today's perspective, Taika Waititi said that Akira is still very much under development, but unfortunately he is not sure whether in the end he will be the one who puts it on the canvas. This mixed news came after Waititi elaborated on something that caused the delay in much-anticipated live action Akira .

"The whole thing was put on hold. We had to move the data further and they interfered with the data from Thor which were immobile. So shifted Akira two years later. "

"Post" Thor. "So I'm not sure if I would be in two years – I don't know what I'm going to do in two days."

It has been two decades since Warner Bros's remake Akira in per production, and despite many setbacks, the studio still seems determined to do this. When Taika Waititi directed the film last year, it was slated to release on May 21, 2021, but of course that won't happen anymore. The remake Akira has now been removed from the schedule and instead The Matrix 4 has been added to this date. Since then, there have been no updates about the film.
